Do you think becoming a makeup atrist/hair stylist is a good idea?

I know becoming a make-up artist and hairstylist is hard because its very competitive and i've heard about how its very unpredictable because there can be times when you go a long time without working. But, i just want to maybe work in a salon or spa and do hair and make up, i am not all that concerned about doing lots of celebrities makeup and going on photoshoots to do and hair ann makeup and things like that. I just want to go to beauty school because a career like that is something i think i would enjoy, and i want a career i love. So ... my question is do you think if i were to work at a salon that i could make a comfortable living in NYC (comfortable i mean as just sort of decent, having enough money to pay the bills and pay for food and things like that)? ....

If you love your job, it will be worth not having a ton of money or the risk of not working for a while. I'd say go for it, there are plenty of salons out there, and with a job like that there is always room for improvement. And if you become good enough you could open your own salon, or move up to a better paying salon, you never know.
